The Apostle Paul tells us in I Corinthians that we need to go into “…strict training…” in order to compete with life and grow in our faith. There are many things that can help us in that training, and this morning we are focusing on two that will keep us moving in our walk, and help us become who we want to be as God’s children; they are hearing God, and making sure that He hears us.
Paul tells us in the Book of Romans that “…faith comes from hearing the message through the word of Christ.” That means we need to hear God’s Word in order to find that “abundant life” that Jesus promised us, and the more we hear the better. We need to learn how to be quiet and listen for Him to speak to us; because He is—but so often the “busy-ness” of life keeps us from hearing.
Paul also tells us that we should “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Prayer is our conversation with our Father in heaven, and how He gets to hear from us. So we should be having ongoing discussions with Him, as we pour our hearts out about everything in our lives. He is our Father, so there’s nothing He isn’t interested in hearing from His children, and the more we realize that—the more blessed our prayer life will become.
If you’ve included these two things into your daily walk, I’m betting that you are much closer to God today than you were in your past. If not, I’d bet you have shared my experience with a condition that I call; “Spiritual Depression.”
That feeling of knowing you are missing something in your walk, and wanting to find it. The realization that you are not growing closer to God, even though it’s what you want with all your heart. If that describes where you’re at in your walk, let God hear it...and then listen for His reply.
