Just A Thought: From Groanings to Glory

During the year, on every fifth Tuesday – the prayer team goes to West Hickory Haven Nursing home – we sing songs talk with the folks and share a truth from God’s word. Those present to help were Ruth Belleville, Thelma Armstrong, Richard and Martha Carmona, and Gerry Leist. This week the theme was God is good – All the time. The Scripture came from Psalms 34:8 which says: "Oh taste and see that the Lord is good”.
Sometimes life beats us up so much that it’s hard to see the goodness of God through the pain. Sometimes life just causes us to groan. Let me just say this: We are a people who worship Jesus Christ. Let that sink in. There are places in the world where that will get you killed. We don’t just admire Him, or follow Him, or swear allegiance to Him. We worship Jesus. We worship Him as the eternal, uncreated, omnipotent, all-wise, Creator and Sustainer and Redeemer of the universe. He is God, one with the Father and the Spirit. And, we worship God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit - one God, in three divine Persons. We worship Jesus. Believing that- we know that our life is greater than what is happening to us and around us. So first – let me say that although God may not be answering your prayers the way you’d like, you can count on the fact that God is with you nevertheless.
Scripture always moves from groaning to glory. John 9 tells the story of the man born blind. His life is filled with groaning. Jesus heals him – now look at John 9:38: “(The healed man) said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped Him.” Jesus took the blind man - from blindness to the blazing deity of Jesus. And that is where He is taking us… I think that when Jesus says in John 10:10, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly,” He means, “I came that they might be saved and go in and out and find pasture.” (Protection and Abundance) Safety and deep spiritual satisfaction. Abundant life is about having peace. Having Joy. Having God. The apex of that abundant life is the worship of Jesus Christ. That’s where He’s taking us, from groaning to glory. We worship Jesus! Today, taste and see that the Lord is good!
