Just A Thought: Let Your Light Shine

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."  - John 8:12

I know most of us, or perhaps all of us, at one time in our lives have experienced the lights going out, whether in our homes, school,  or in a place of business. Usually a storm or an accident causes it. Then "out go the lights."  DARKNESS.

Have you ever been in complete darkness? I don’t mean figuratively. Absolutely no light? When I was a kid I went with a tour group into a cave in northern Wisconsin. The biggest moment on the tour was when the guide led us into a large cavern…   “In a moment we’re going to turn off the lights,” he explained, “that way you can get an idea of what it was like for people to explore the cave in the early days.” As soon as the lights went out, it was pitch black. I held my hand in front of my face - couldn’t see a thing... complete darkness.

The Bible has a lot to say about light and darkness. The book of John says, before we gave our lives to Christ we were lost in darkness. Someone had to come along with his or her light and lead us out of darkness.  Jesus did just that, He said, "I am the light of this world. He who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."  Jesus paid the price for all of us in full. He died on the cross and rose again. As the light of God He has come into the darkness of this world and when we accept Christ as our Savior He says that now “we have the light of life.”  In another place He tells us to let our lights shine.

No matter what problems arise, let your light shine. When people treat you bad - let your light shine. When sickness comes - let your light shine. Money runs out - let your light shine. Let’s choose daily to serve Christ and let our lights shine BRIGHT!
