What if we asked God...FIRST?

I recently watched a video where Jimmy Kimmel tells parents to tell their children that they ate all their
Halloween candy and to video the responses. It is crazy what some of these kids do… scream, cry, run to their room, hit their parents, call them names, and pass out. Remember this is all over CANDY!
Although candy is so amazing and just down right yummy… it seems a little ridiculous (and funny) how these kids responded to hearing what their parents did.
It reminds me of how I act when someone tries to take food off my plate (so not cool) or when I wake up and all the kids wet the bed (EW) or when we are out of Dr. Pepper or when Pastor Tom calls me into his office (that happens a lot). I get a little ridiculous and I can’t even imagine how I look to other people watching it.
We have the opportunity to flip out over anything we want to… I mean anything, and some of us do! But when we always flip out over everything, it becomes so ridiculous and actually annoying.
What if there was a model in the Bible that could help us out????
Check this out….

"Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of the Lord, 'Shall I go and attack the Philistines?'... The Lord answered him, 'Go, for I will surely hand the Philistines over to you.' So David went...and he defeated them."  Later, the Philistines invaded again. "So David inquired of the Lord, and He answered, 'Do not go straight up...'"                           -2 Samuel 5:18-25

Now, notice here, David did not go into a battle until he had checked with God to see if this was a battle he should fight.
What would happen if before we went all crazy and out of control we went to God first and asked Him… “Is this something you want me to get into?” “Is this something worth taking to the next level?”
You might be asking yourself…what if I ask God and He doesn’t answer me….then WAIT don’t take the next step until you hear from God.
Next time you are eating a Twix or some Smarties (my favorite) remember to go to God and ask Him… “Is this something I should battle for?”
